Youth Congress stages �Dispur Gherao�, seeks CBI probe

GUWAHATI, Oct 3 - The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress on Saturday staged a �Dispur Gherao' march demanding CBI inquiry into the SI exam question paper leak scam.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Manabendra Sarma Complex at Dispur and started marching towards the State Secretariat shouting slogans against the government.

Besides the Youth Congress leaders, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, MLA Rakibul Hussain and MLA Rekibbuddin Ahmed also took part in the protest.

However, the protesters were intercepted by police mid-way and hundreds of protesters were subsequently detained, including Koliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi, MLA Rakibul Hussain and MLA Rekkibuddin Ahmed. They were later released. Three Youth Congress workers also sustained injuries during the protest.

The protesters also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for failing to prevent the question paper leak.

Assam Youth Congress general secretary Suman Kalyan Bora in a statement said if the inquiry is not handed over to the CBI immediately, the members of the Youth Congress will intensify the protest in the coming days.
