Youth Cong stages protest against price rise, blocks NH-37

By ANN Service

JORABAT, Sept 21 - Members of the Dispur Constituency Youth Congress and the Dimoria Block Congress staged a protest against the spiralling rise in the prices of essential commodities, including domestic LPG cylinders and fuel, on the NH-37 at Khetri today.

During the protest, the Congress members raised anti-BJP slogans and torched the Prime Ministers effigy to express their resentment over the current inflation in the country.

The Youth Congress unit said when the BJP was in the Opposition, it protested against the rise in prices of essential commodities but after coming to power, the same party has failed to arrest the price rise. Both the Centre and the State Government are not uttering a single word on the rise in the prices of essential commodities now, the Youth Congress unit alleged.

The local people here alleged that the rise in the prices of LPG cylinders has added to the woes of the consumers. The protesters demanded that immediate steps should be taken by the Central Government to control the rising inflation in the country.

The protest on the national highway resulted in heavy traffic jams in the Khetri area.
