Youth Cong members, police clash in Mizoram

By CORRESPONDENT

AIZAWL, Sept 13 - Members of the Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee today clashed with the police as they tried to barge into the Chief Ministers Office (CMO) to seek an explanation on how a group of Hindu radicals could stage a demonstration at the CMO campus a few days ago. The Youth Congress activists were stopped at the gate by the security personnel, which led to a brief tussle. However, nobody was injured in the confrontation.

In a statement, the Youth Congress expressed resentment at not being allowed to enter the CMO campus while a group of Hindu radicals who called themselves Bharat Hitaraksha Abhiyan (BHA) were allowed to stage demonstration.

On September 7, around 140 members of the BHA staged a demonstration on the CMO campus, demanding immediate steps by Chief Minister Zoramthanga for repatriation of Bru refugees from Tripura. The Youth Congress members were led by their president Lalmalsawma Nghaka.
