AGARTALA, June 14 - Anupam Paul, the prime accused in a case pertaining to defamation of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb�s family through social media has been finally arrested in Delhi, official sources said here on Friday.
Anupam, who was on the run since April 26 this year, was nabbed in Delhi by Tripura police�s Crime branch on June 12. After the arrest, he was produced before a Delhi court the following day seeking transit remand for interrogation and investigation into the case. The court has granted the plea.
�Anupam Paul has been arrested from an area of Delhi on June 12 and he will be taken back to the State for interrogation as the court has ready granted his transit remand�, said a senior police officer here on Friday.
However, the official refused to give details on the detention of Anupam and follow up action by the Crime branch. One journalist Saikat Talapatra, who was also arrested in connection with a defamatory post on Facebook, is now out on bail.
Anupam had allegedly posted on Facebook that Chief Minister�s wife Niti Deb had filed a divorce suit at the Tees Hazari Court in Delhi on April 25. But Deb�s wife had denied filing such a case against her husband Biplab Kumar Deb.
The post went viral in the social media prompting the police to register an FIR against Anupam on charges of forgery, cheating and conspiracy.
