Youth arrested for FB post against Tripura CM sent to police remand

AGARTALA, June 16 - Anupam Paul, the prime accused in a case pertaining to defamation of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb�s family through social media, has been sent to three-day police remand after being produced before a local court here on Sunday.

Anupam was arrested by Crime branch of State police from Delhi on June 12 in connection with the case and was brought to Agartala on transit remand.

On Sunday, he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), West Tripura by police seeking a five-day remand for interrogation. After hearing the case, the court granted three-day police remand.

Anupam had allegedly posted on Facebook that Chief Minister�s wife Niti Deb had filed a divorce suit at the Tees Hazari court in Delhi on April 25. But Deb�s wife had denied of filing such a suit against her husband. The post went viral in the social media prompting the police to register an FIR against Anupam charging him with forgery, cheating and conspiracy.

Earlier, Saikat Talapatra was arrested for a derogatory post in the social media against the Chief Minister�s family with reference to Anupam�s post. Saikat, a local TV journalist is now out on bail.
