Youngsters must have modern facilities: Sonowal

GUWAHATI, Sept 8 � The Minister of State for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports, Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the youngsters must be provided modern and scientific facilities to take them to the next stage.

Speaking in an interaction function with the eminent sportspersons of the State and sports scribes here today, Sonowal revealed that sports is now a days a science and the state of the art facilities should be made available for the young sportspersons in order to develop their skills. He also vowed that as India has a vast youth power, it can be a major sporting nation in the world.

The Union Sports Minister said that the subjects of sports medicine and sports science will be introduced in one of the medical colleges and universities of the State so that specialists in these subjects can be produced.

Sonowal urged the society to encourage the youngsters to take their sporting event seriously so that they can be medal winning athlete in future.

To select talented youngsters, National Talent Search Scheme will be introduced among the boys and girls of 8 to 10 years. After conducting battery test selected youngsters will be provided every facilities to build them as a top class sportspersons, informed Sonowal.

He also appealed all the sports federations of the country to be clean and extend helping hand to the government along with Indian Olympic Association so that international medal winning athletes can be produced.

He also seeked the co-operation of the State Governments in creating sports infrastructure all over the country.

Speakers like Premadhar Sharma, Madhurya Baruah, Mithu Baruah, Pronoy Bordoloi, Subodh Malla Baruah, Balendra Mohan Chakravorty, Pradip Chaliha etc were also gave their views on the occasion.

SAI city centre director in charge Subhash Basumatary welcomed the gathering.

International players like Taibun Nesha, Renubala Devi, Sanjoy Boro, Nandini Baruah, Dhaniram Basumatary, Tania Choudhury, Boby Singh, Suresh Ch Roy, Rajib Dey, Kavita Devi, Debashis Roy, Joydeep Das, Nayanmoni Saikia, Pramila Bharali, Elvis Ali Hazarika, Carfew Roy, Tarun Saikia, Tridib Duvarah were honoured by the Minister.
