Silchar, March 23: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath slammed Congress party for its divisive politics against the efforts of development for which the BJP has been striving in Assam and across the country.

Addressing a public meeting here at the India Club ground to woo voters in support of Silchar BJP candidate Dipayan Chakraborty, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said, "the infamous history of dividing the nation back in 1947 is the identity of Congress. People of Silchar have also witnessed the historic language movement of 1961. The same spirit is reflected even today as the party has joined hands with AIUDF and the left parties to win the electoral battle."

Further taking a potshot at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Yogi Adityanath said, "when nation was fighting against COVID-19 pandemic under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi must have remembered his maternal relatives back in Italy as he was nowhere seen to heal the woes of the people. During elections, Rahul Gandhi is best known to criticise Assam while being in Kerala and when he comes to Assam, he dishes out flowery promises. He is only seen during elections."

Adityanath alleged that during the battle against COVID-19, Congress party was busy in disturbing the constructive efforts of the Government.

On the other hand, Yogi Adityanath praised Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government for the steps taken against separatist activities and accelerating the pace of development in the State.
