Yogesh, Parimala bag carrom crowns

GUWAHATI, March 31 � Yogesh Pardeshi of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) clinched the men�s singles title causing upset over top seed B Radhakrishnan of Tamil Nadu 13-3, 9-6 in the Mridul Gogoi Senior National and Inter State Carrom Championship.

On the closing day of the championship at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here today, Yogesh virtually outplayed the defending champion dominating the proceeding from the very beginning.

In the women�s singles final, M Parimala Devi of Tamil Nadu dethroned top seed and her State mate I Ilavazhaki 5-13, 8-7, 7-3.

The veterans titles went to Maharashtra man Prakash Kambale who defeated Shyamji Padaya, also of Maharashtra 12-6, 0-17, 9-3. In the womens� category, V Kangshri of Meghalaya downed Nanei Segneeria of NAABARD 12-0, 12-0.

Assam�s Vijoy Rabha, who was beaten by Yogesh in the semifinal, came fourth. Another Assam player Sahadet Ali came fourth in men�s singles.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was the chief guest in the closing function. Mridul Gogoi�s widow Nitu Gogoi and mother Juri Gogoi were also present in the closing function along with State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, noted sportsperson Suren Ram Phookan and a host of carrom federation�s officials.

The championship was organised by the Assam Carrom Association where over 400 players from 42 units took part.
