Yoga Day observed in Manipur, Arunachal

IMPHAL, June 21 � Manipur joined the observation of the first-ever International Yoga Day by widely performing Yoga, meditation, discussion and dissemination of the benefits of practising Yoga for physical and mental health on Sunday.

Starting from the wee hours of the day, the performance of Yoga was held at various places across the State. The State Directorate of Ayush along with State Health Mission observed the Day at the hall of Indian Medical Association, Manipur branch with participation of State Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing.

During the day�s observance, Yoga asanas were demonstrated by experts. The Health Minister along with officials also participated in a �Run for Yoga�.

Army�s Red Shield Division also organised a Yoga session for all ranks and families on the occasion at its Leimakhong headquarters on Sunday.

National Cadet Corps (NCC), the premier youth organisation in Manipur performed yoga to commemorate the Day at 18 venues all over the State. More than 6,500 cadets participated in the yoga performance.

ITANAGAR Correspondent adds: Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts, including Arunachal Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa today performed yoga asanas at the heart of the State capital, IG Park, marking the maiden International Day of Yoga.

Braving early morning drizzle, a large number of enthusiastic participants, both young and old, from different strata of society including school children, turned up for the event.

The Governor along with the students and teachers, leaders of faith groups, government officials and citizens performed yoga under the guidance of yoga teachers SS Singh and Nagesh Singh of Patanjali.

On the occasion, the Governor said yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body.
