ITANAGAR, Oct 10 Sahid Sardhanjali Yatra scheduled from October 18, was aimed at paying homage to the martyrs of the 1962 aggression and not aimed at provoking China, BJP said today.
Our aim is not to provoke our neighbour, but to emotionally remember those 3,770 soldiers who laid down their lives for their motherland in the Indo-China war, BJP National General Secretary Tapir Gao told a press conference here.
This not a political programme, but a national occasion to remember martyrs, he said.
Gao said that party President Nitin Gadkari would flag off the yatra on the theme, Jara Yaad Koro Kurbani, at Guwahati on October 18 which would culminate at Bumla on the Indo-China border on October 21.
It would mark the 50 years of Chinese aggression through the Tawang sector, on October 20, 1962.
Gadkari was scheduled to address a public rally here on November 21 to mark the day on which China withdrew its forces from Arunachal in 1962, Gao said.
On ULFA anti-talk faction leader Paresh Baruahs email asking the people of Assam not to participate in the yatra as it would be a provocation for the neighbour, Gao said, We have also received the email. PTI
