GUWAHATI, Feb 28 - The State Government sponsored Assam Wrestling Academy was formally inaugurated at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Amingaon today.
It is the third sports academy set up by the Sports Department of the State Government. Earlier, football and boxing academies were started at the Sarusajai sports complex.
Former minister and presently the media adviser to the Chief Minister Bharat Chandra Narah formally inaugurated the academy in a brief function. Additional Chief Secretary, RT Jindal; Commissioner and Secretary of the Sport Department, Ajai Tiwari; Director of Sports, Anjan Sarma; eminent sportsperson Tayabun Nisha were present in the inaugural function. Binod Kumar has been appointed as the chief technical administrator of the academy.
At present 20 boys and as many girls were selected from different parts of the State for this academy where apart from regular training the inmates will also get general education.
