KAZIRANGA, Feb 3 - World Wetland Day was observed in Burapahar Range of Kaziranga National Park on Saturday.
The theme of the World Wetland Day this year is �Wetland and Climate Change�. The programme was organised jointly by Kaziranga National Park authority and Corbett Foundation.
Speaking to this Correspondent, Jadumoni Goswami, a functionary of TCF said that since wetlands play a significant role in our ecosystem, especially for small living organisms which are dependent on it, so it is necessary to make students aware of it.
Secondly, wetlands help in absorbing carbon and storing it, followed by controlling or reducing of floods and storms in coastline areas. During the day-long programme, students from different corners were apprised about the importance of wetlands in their respective environments and measures needed to preserve wetlands.
Speaking on the occasion, the local reporter of Kaziranga, Swapan Nath made the participants aware about different wetlands in and around Kaziranga and the stellar role played by those wetlands in conserving nature and maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
At 8.30 am, the students were taken on an educational tour inside Burapahar Range of Kaziranga National Park in which they were apprised about the significance of different wetlands that appeared across their way by the forest staff of Kaziranga National Park.
Range Officer of Burapahar Pradip Goswami shed light on different species of wildlife in available in Kaziranga and the importance of conservation and protection of forests.
It may be mentioned that World Wetland Day is observed on February 2 every year since 1971 to mark adoption of themes on wetlands at the famous Ramsar Convention.
