World Water Day tomorrow

GUWAHATI, March 20 � The Institution of Engineers (India) Assam State Centre is celebrating the World Water Day 2015 on March 22 with the co-operation of different State and Central Government departments and organisations at its Panbazar premises here with a day-long programme.

The inaugural programme would start at 9.30 am with Chandan Kr Sarkar, Minister, Irrigation and Soil Conservation as chief guest and Sukur Ali Ahmed, Minister, Public Health Engineering as guest of honour. Dr RM Dubey, Director, Assam Pollution Control Board would deliver the keynote address on the theme, �Water and Sustainable Development�.

In the technical session scheduled from 11.30 am, six technical papers would be presented by experts. Delegates from different state departments and institutions � Water Resource, Irrigation, Public Health Engg, Assam Pollution Control Board, Assam Engineering College; Central organisations and institutions � Brahmaputra Board, IIT Guwahati, NEEPCO and several non-govt organisations will take part in the discussions, said a press release.

The annual Satyendra Sarma memorial and Gokul Chandra Goswami memorial awards would also be presented in the inaugural session to the best Engineering Graduate and best Electrical Engineering Graduate of Gauhati University. This year the award recipients are Rajat Kamal Kakoty of Girjananda Choudhury Institute of Management and Technology, Azara and Jharna Devi of Assam Engineering College, Jalukbari. A souvenir cum technical volume would also be released on the occasion in the inaugural session.
