World Water Day on March 22

GUWAHATI, March 15 - The Guwahati Regional Centre (GRC) of the Institution of Public Health Engineers, India (IPHE-I) will celebrate the World Water Day, 2016 in association with the Senior Engineers� Forum of Greater Guwahati, PHE Retired Engineers� Forum (PREF) and Indian Water Works Association (IWWA), Guwahati Regional Centre from 10 am of March 22 at the Sangeetacharya Lakhiram Barua Sadan of the Asam Sahitya Sabha here, stated a press release here today.

As part of the celebration, the organisers will also hold a quiz competition among the Kamrup (Metro) district school students, reading up to class XII, on the topic �Water: Our Lifeline�. The competition will revolve around the common issues relating to water, sanitation and hygiene and it will be conducted by quiz masters Dilip Kumar Sarma and Rittwik Bhattacharyya from 11 am that day.

The competition will carry cash awards of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 for the first three winners, besides the prizes offered by the members of the audience. Any number of teams from a school, each team comprising two members, may be able to take part in the competition. But the participants should come in school uniforms and school identity cards. Those students, who do not have identity cards, should bring along with them the approval letters for participation issued by their respective school authorities. The participants will not have to pay any participation fee.

The main function of the day-long programme will be addressed by Prof Mukulesh Barua, Director, Assam Institute of Management as the appointed speaker on the United Nations� specified theme for the year � �Water and Jobs�. Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Secretary Ashok Kumar Das will address the function as the chief guest, while NEEPCO General Manager Sanjeev Kumar Baruah will be the guest of honour in the function, said the organisers.
