World Tourism Day celebrated at Haflong

HAFLONG, Sept 27 - In sync with World Tourism Day, the Department of Tourism organised a �World Tourism Day Run� which was flagged off by Ranu Langthasa, chairperson of NC Hills Autonomous Council of Dima Hasao today at Haflong. The chairperson was accompanied by Paul Barua, Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao, Nandita Gorlosa, Executive Member Monjit Naiding, MAC Nojit Kemprai, MAC of NCHAC Zovi Nampui, secretary of NCHAC and Donpainon Thaosen, BJP president of Haflong.

Altogether, 150 boys and girls took part in the run from the Boat House to Diyung bridge, a distance of 9 km. The first, second and third position holders (both boys and girls) would be awarded cash prizes and certificates. This was followed by demonstration of several adventure activities like zip lining and rock climbing etc. near Diyung bridge.

In this connection a well attended meeting was also held wherein the CEM of NCHAC Debolal Gorlosa attended as the chief guest while Ranu Langthasa, Nandita Gorlosa, Monjit Naiding, Nojit Kemprai, Donpainon Thaosen and the gaonburha of Berelang village attended as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, CEM Gorlosa stressed on the importance of hospitality and cleanliness to be maintained for the development of tourism industry in the district.

He said, �our district is blessed with natural beauty, flora and fauna and pleasant weather, which may not be available in other places. It is therefore quite natural for people from other places to visit our district.�

All the guests were felicitated with Risa by the officials of Dima Hasao tourism.

Among others, Ranu Langthasa, Monjit Naiding and Nandita Gorlosa spoke on the occasion stressing upon the importance of protection of environment, flora and fauna in all her pristine glory.
