TEZPUR, Dec 8 - The World Soil Day was observed with a day-long programme at the Napam-based Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Tezpur recently.
Talking to this correspondent, programme coordinator of the Sonitpur KVK, Dr PC Deka said that this year the day received global impetus due to the declaration of the year 2015 as the International Year of Soil by the UNO to create awareness on sustainable soil health management.
An awareness camp was held on the KVK campus for distributing soil health cards among farmers. Tezpur MLA Rajen Borthakur, attending the programme as chief guest, laid stress on soil test-based fertiliser application.
A total of 253 soil health cards were also distributed among the farmers on the occasion.
