World Soil Day observed

KALAIGAON, Dec 5 - People of neighbouring villages of Tangla observed �World Soil Day� at Kacharital village near Tangla town under Kalaigaon Revenue Circle today with a daylong programme.

The event was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Udalguri. A meeting was held on the occasion which was presided over by Fishery Scientist Pabitra Kumar Saharia. Jagadish Sarkar, EM of Soil Conservative, BTC, participating as the distinguished guest, appealed to the people to understand the meaning of soil conservation.

Alindra Muchahary, EM, BTC, also spoke on the occasion as the chief guest. Addressing the farmers, he appealed to the people to avoid old methods of cultivation and urged them to follow the scientific method for more production.

EM Muchahary inaugurated an exhibition which was organised on the occasion of World Soil Day. Various agricultural products were displayed in the exhibition. Naram Kachari, DVO of Udalguri, Abdul Batem SDO, Agriculture, Dhaneshwar Baro, SDO of Irrigation Department, also spoke on the significance of the day.

DN Hazarika, ADC, Udalguri, inaugurated a frontline demonstration of agricultural products and instruments. The programme was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Udalguri. The programme concluded after distribution of Soil Health Cards to the farmers.

Nalbari: World Soil Day was celebrated on the premises of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Nalbari today. The programme was organised to spread mass awareness on soil health among farmers.

Addresses the gathering, Ashok Kumar Sarma, MLA of Nalbari LAC, told the gathering on how to grab various opportunities offered by the government. Dr Mridul Deka, programme coordinator of the KVK, delivered his welcome speech emphasising on the maintenance of soil health for sustained agricultural production.

He also laid stress on cultivation of various Rabi crops, especially pulses and oil seeds for attaining self-sufficiency. Speaking on the occasion, Hemanta Bhattcharryya, Nalbari Superintendent of Police, encouraged the farmers by sharing his views on organic agriculture. The District Development Commissioner, Nadira Jeshmin, was also present in the programme and discussed about hazard-free agriculture for maintaining the soil productivity.

Nalbari DAO, Kailash Talukder, talked about issues related to Soil Health Card, PMFBY, PMKSY etc. Attending the programme, Dr Bidyut Chandan Deka, Director of ICAR-ATARI Zone-III, urged the youth farmers to come forward in groups so that they can produce a bulk quantity of certain variety.
