World Philosophy Day observed at Pragjyotish College

GUWAHATI, Nov 26 - Under the aegis of the Department of Philosophy, the World Philosophy Day was observed at Pragjyotish College, Guwahati on November 21 last with a glittering programme, stated a press release.

At the outset, Dr Monoj Kumar Mahanta, Principal of the college lit the ceremonial lamp. Dipika Roy Medhi, Associate Professor and Head of Philosophy department, Pragjyotish College highlighted the significance of observing the day across the globe.

To mark the occasion, Dr Nanda Sigh Barkala, a senior police officer and a writer of eminence delivered a highly thought-provoking lecture on the topic, �In the aesthetics of Indian philosophy, the national life of Assam � the Challenges.� He dwelt at length on the topic and made everybody aware of the contemporary challenges to the national life of Assam and effort to awake the consciousness of the Assamese people.

Among others, Ramen Deka, an ex-MP and an alumnus of Philosophy department of the college and Dr Anjana Neog, retired Head of the same department also graced the programme. A quiz competition in memory of Dr Rajendra Majumdar was also organised among the students of the college.

Advocate Dipak Sarma, another alumnus of the college, conducted the competition. Cash, mementos and certificates were given away to the prize winners by Principal Monoj Kumar Mahanta. The programme was largely attended, the release added.
