GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - The World Pharmacist Day 2018 was celebrated by Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, Azara, on Tuesday.
The celebration began with flag-hoisting, followed by an awareness rally brought out by the students and faculties of the Institute.
Dr Dhiraj Bora, Vice Chancellor of Assam Science and Technology University, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dipak Kr Singh, General Manager, Ozone Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, Dilip Kr Gupta, AGM, Pure and Cure Pvt Ltd, Jayanta Das, psychiatrist, and Bhuban Ch Das, Registrar, Assam Pharmacy Council, were the guests of honour. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr Gouranga Das, Principal of the Institute.
During the celebration, a drug information centre was also started at the Institute, which is stated to be the only functional organisation of its kind in the entire North East. The DIC was inaugurated by Dr Ratindra Bhuyan, Director of Health Service, Guwahati, in the presence of Haresh Ch Deori, Deputy Drug Controller, Assam.
This centre will provide authentic and up-to-date information on any aspect of drug use to healthcare professionals, research scholars, patients and others.
The daylong programme was attended by pharmacy professionals, students and other guests. It concluded with a colourful cultural programme presented by the students and employees of the Institute. This was stated in a press release issued by the Institute Principal.
