Celebrated for the first time in 1982, the United Nations General Assembly declared the day as a moment devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
The theme for this year is The Right to Peace The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70. It commemorates the 70th anniversary this year of the landmark declaration of universal human rights adopted by the General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948. The universal declaration enshrines the fundamental democratic principle in Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
