GUWAHATI, May 18 - Under the initiative of Directorate of Museum, Assam, World Museum Day was observed on its office premise here today, stated a press release here this evening.
A lecture on �Museum and Cultural Landscape� was organised on this occasion. RC Das, former director who attended the event, said that Museum Movement in Assam started in 1932. Late Ananda Chandra Agarwala was the pioneer in establishing museum in Assam.
He also added that there are museums in the different districts of Assam which pull commendable number of visitors and tourists. Apart from this, different college museums, university museums and many private museums also exist in the State. He also stressed on cleaning the different galleries of the museum rather than depending on chemical treatment.
YS Wunglengton, Director of Museum, explained the importance for observing the day and also welcomed the guests. A workshop on the occasion was also held on the office premise where children from Shisu Sarathi, Guwahati, participated.
