World looking up to India for leadership: RSS

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 Making a strong pitch for unification of all Indians to make the country a global leader, RSS chief Mohan Rao Bhagawat today said that the world was looking up to India for leadership and the time had come for it to deliver.

Addressing an RSS rally at the Khanapara Veterinary College playground, Bhagawat said that obsession with self-interest had done the nation a great harm and a renaissance in the society was imperative to bring about the desired transformation.

Indians should unite under the philosophy of Hindutva, which is synonymous with Bharatiwatva or the ethos of the landthe traditions and practices followed in ancient India hold the key to addressing many of the ills plaguing the present-day Indian society, he said.

Calling for tolerance and acknowledgement of the diverse faiths for peaceful coexistence, the RSS leader said that the plurality of the Indian society had its strengths. Throughout ages India has remained united amidst its diversity and this needs to be carried forward today to thwart the forces bent upon destroying our unity, he said.

Bhagawat was also critical of the special favours being meted out to a particular minority, saying that such policy of appeasement was dangerous for the well-being of the nation.

Urging the people to respect nature and to harmonize peoples lifestyles and the development process with nature, Bhagawat said that global warming was a result of ruthless exploitation of nature and the environment. The conflict between man and nature is causing serious imbalances and the consequences are there for all to see.

A sustainable use of natural resources with adjustments in our lifestyles can go a long way towards checking global warming, he said.

Noted Assamese actor Pranjal Saikia, who was the chief guest on the occasion, called upon the people of the State to develop a work culture and to shed petty self-interests and differences for building a composite Assamese society. Assam has bled a lot and it is time the people showed some character to tide over the crisis, he said.
