World Disability Day observed

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Fransalian Agency for Social Care and Education in India (FAsCE India) in collaboration with Jyoti Niketan, an institute for blind children, Satgaon, came together to commemorate World Disability Day today.

The aim of the event was to create public awareness in the Narengi area in keeping with the theme for 2016: �Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want,� which draws attention to the 17 sustainable development goals and how these goals can �create a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities.�

A brief inaugural function was held at the LG Tower campus at Narengi where Bhaben Barman, Headmaster of Guwahati Blind High School, Basistha, was the chief guest.

He addressed gathering on the importance of the day and FAsCE�s commitment towards persons with disabilities with its attitudinal change and inclusive approach.

Visually challenged children from Jyoti Niketan presented patriotic songs and performed mimicry, while the children from FAsCE Supplementary Education Centre, Narengi, performed a dance number during the function.

It was followed by �Blind Walk�, an awareness rally flagged off by the guest of honour Madan Chandra Kalita, Officer In-charge of Satgaon police station.

A total of 160 participants from Jyoti Niketan, FAsCE Supplementary Education Centre including the FAsCE SHGs, local youth groups and staff members of the organising institutions participated in the rally, which culminated in SFS Higher Secondary School campus at Patharquarry.
