DIBRUGARH, June 12 - An awareness cycle rally was jointly organized by the district administration, and Dibrugarh District Legal Services Authority in association with Dibrugarh District Sports Association and Dibrugarh Cycling Club on the occasion of the World Day against Child Labour.
The awareness cycle rally against child labour was taken our from the Chowkidinghee ground. Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan and Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri flagged off the rally.
The rally, which passed through Thana Chariali, Phool Bagan, Marwaripatty and Amollapatty concluded at the starting point in Chowkidinghee. Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri also took part in the cycle rally with a placard tucked at the front of her cycle.
While interacting with the participants Laya Madduri said that for child labour to end, it was necessary for every citizen to be a anti-child labour crusader. �If all citizens are proactive in checking child labour, we can make Dibrugarh child labour free district,� said the Deputy Commissioner. Dibrugarh District Legal Services Authority Secretary, Imdad Ahmed, Child Welfare Committee Member, Kiran Bora, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Subhon Goala, Assistant Commissioners � Dibakar Nath, Runav Ramchiary, Uday Sankar Dutta and Rashmi Pratap also participated in the event.
Similar awareness campaign was also organized at nearby Baughpara tea estate by Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA).

HAILAKANDI: Along with rest of the world, Assam�s southern most district Hailakandi celebrated the World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL) today.
Administering the pledge to the officials and employees of different departments at the Deputy Commissioner�s conference hall, District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar urged one and all not to employ children under the age of 14, be it as domestic help or as shop-hands. �Let us all join hands together and work towards annihilating all forms of child labour,� said Laskar, as he read out the pledge.
Laskar underscored the need for concerted and integrated approach to eliminate child labour.
The day brought together various government departments, employers, workers� organizations and civil society across the district pledging to do away with the menace of child labour in all forms by 2025.
Launched in 2002 by United Nation�s International Labour Organization (ILO), the day observed annually on June 12, aims at raising awareness and activism to protect child labourers by fostering a worldwide movement against child labour in any form.
According to 2011 Census, there are around 444 million child labourers in India, which accounts for 36% of the total population.
In October 2006, the Government of India amended the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986, enforcing a ban on employment of children under 14.
Mangaldai: The World Day Against Child Labour was observed on Tuesday afternoon at the campus of �Kasturi Sishu Griha�, a registered Child Care Institute (CCI) situated at Gaonburhapara, Mangaldai under the aegis of the Darrang district administration and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) under the State Social Welfare department.
The observation marked a public awareness meeting where several speakers including Kalpana Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Social Welfare Department, Satyajit Nath, Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), among others, spoke on the occasion. The speakers underlined different legal punishment provisions of the Child Labour Prohibition Act and the role of different stakeholders in dealing with matters relating to control of child labour and rescue of its victims.
Representatives of the local Labour department, local non-govt organizations like Crystal Vision, MAMTA, Bhebarghat Mahila Mancha also took part in the meeting along with a few local residents. A public oath-taking ceremony against child labour was also conducted on the occasion under the leadership of Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalpana Deka.
