GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - With a view to creating awareness about the importance of coconut, city-based Rural Development Society (RDS) celebrated World Coconut Day with a daylong programme at Khanapara on Saturday.
On the occasion, a talk was delivered by Mowsam Hazarika, senior officer in the Department of Agriculture.
In his speech, Hazarika said there is great potential for production, processing and marketing of value-added products of coconut.
CJ Joseph from the Coconut Research Forum, Kerala, also participated in the event.
An exhibition on coconut and its value-added products was also organised on the occasion.
Indonesia-headquartered Asia and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) celebrates September 2 as World Coconut Day. The theme of World Coconut Day 2017 was �Coconut for family nutrition, health and wellness�.
