World class rail terminus at Guwahati

IMPHAL, July 31 - Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain today said that the work for the development of Guwahati Railway station as a world class railway terminus will be started next year.

�The detailed project report of the development programme is now ready,� MoS Railways Gohain said, adding, �The project will cost around Rs 500 crore.�

Gohain was speaking to reporters here minutes before his departure for Agartala to attend the formal flag off function of Agartala-Anand Vihar (Delhi) Tripura Sundari weekly express on Sunday morning.

He also expressed the need to develop Dimapur railway station considering its importance to the people of North- eastern States particularly Nagaland, Manipur and Assam.

General Manager of NF Railway (Construction) HK Jaggi who accompanied the MoS Railways informed that the entire NE region is now connected with broad gauge(BG) except a 43 km stretch in Assam sector. It will also be completed within next few months as the Central Government plans to connect all NE States with BG rail link by 2020.
