World Bicycle Day observed at Jorhat

JORHAT, June 7 - After the United Nations last year declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day, the Jorhat Cycling Community, a group devoted for the cause of cycling and good health was formed on June 4, 2018.

As June 3 this year was a working day, the Jorhat Cycling Community decided to observe World Bicycle Day a day earlier, that is on June 2 instead.

On the occasion, a bicycle rally was taken out from Jorhat Stadium complex with Assistant Commissioner Tridib Konwar on behalf of the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner flagging off the rally. The rally passed through AT Road, Garali, via Cinnamara, Baghchung and Lichubari Tiniali to the Assam Agricultural University and then finally ended at the Jorhat Stadium after passing through Jail Road.

As part of the programme, two veteran cyclists of Jorhat � Nabin Chandra Dutta and Siva Prasad Neog � were felicitated by advocate and social activist Rintu Goswami and teacher/sportswoman Kakali Borthakur respectively on behalf of the Jorhat Cycling Community at a function held at the stadium. The programme was sponsored by the ONGC establishment based at Cinnamara here.

CRPF green drive: On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, a plantation drive was carried out in the campus of 119 Battalion headquarters of CRPF at Rowriah here.

A press note issued by the 119 Battalion headquarters of the paramilitary force stated that the rank and file of the Central force, led by Inspector-General (Operations, Sector Jorhat), Sudhakar Upadhyay, planted over 300 saplings in and around the campus.

The note stated that the slogan on the occasion was �Plant a tree and save Earth�. DIG (Operations, Sector Jorhat) BP Singh and Commandant of 119 Battalion CRPF Ravi Shankar Kumar were among the officials who took part in the drive.

The note further stated that on the occasion a talk on diseases caused by pollution was delivered by Dr Arun Kumar Saikia at the headquarter campus.
