Workshop on website standardisation

GUWAHATI, June 28 � A website should be designed to meet the needs of the citizens. It should cater to the various e-delivery services for the citizens as well, said Professor Sanjay Verma from IIM Ahmedabad, while deliberating on a daylong workshop, �Standardisation of Websites of Government of Assam� held at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara on Saturday.

Addressing senior officials of various government departments, Prof AK Das of IIT Guwahati and Interim Director of IIIT Manipur, said, �One must first decide on who the user of the websites will be and then accordingly work on the Content Management System.�

Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, while presiding over the workshop, deliberated on the ways and measures to adopt integration of all government websites. He also called upon all officials present to render their support for standardisation of websites.

In the second half of the workshop, Prof Gautam Baruah, Mentor Director of IIIT Guwahati, delved into the internal and external aspects of websites. Smt Junu Kailay, DDG, NIC (Delhi) said, �Technology is not an issue as much as providing correct, up-to-date and authentic information to the people is.�

The welcome address and the vote of thanks were delivered by Commissioner and Secretary of IT Department, Mukesh Sahu. The workshop was well attended by additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and other senior government officials.
