Workshop on search and rescue

GUWAHATI, Nov 8 - A two-day �Search & Rescue Workshop� was organised by the Airports Authority of India, Guwahati, on November 7 and 8.

The objective of the workshop was primarily intended to sensitise controllers posted at airports within the northeastern region, which are the alerting posts of the Rescue Sub Centre, Guwahati.

The workshop also covered subject on Indian Search and Rescue System, the challenges involved, emerging technologies along with a focus on the roles of alerting posts in the SAR System.

Search and Rescue (SAR) workshop was inaugurated by Deepak Kumar, Commissioner of Police, in the presence of Sanjeev Jindal, Regional Executive Director, AAI-NER, and Ramesh Kumar, Airport Director, Guwahati.

The General Manager (Air Traffic Management), North Eastern Region, RG Lama, welcomed the guests with a brief presentation on search and rescue.

Addressing the participating members, Sanjeev Jindal said aviation is the sector where we cannot risk any machinery defect and to minimise the risk, the ever-changing technology has equipped the sector with tools to check it.

�Even though accidents happen and we learn from mistakes, the role of SAR is important. I wish this type of event should be organised in every operational sector and all must benefit from it,� he added.

Representatives from the stakeholders such as ISRO, IAF, Indian Army, NDRF, IMD, airline operators and the State government attended the workshop.
