Workshop on preservation in anthropological museum

GUWAHATI, Oct 4 - The Dept of Anthropology, Arya Vidyapeeth College recently conducted a national workshop on �Techniques of Documentation and Preservation in Anthropological Museum� under the �DBT STAR College Scheme� sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, said a press release today.

The workshop sessions were taken by dignitaries and distinguished personalities associated with museum culture and study from Bhopal and Assam. It was inaugurated by Prof RD Choudhury, Advisor, Indian Art History Congress. The welcome address was given by HoD of the host department Dr Bandita Medhi Deka. Dr Pradip Kumar Bhattacharyya, Principal of the college also spoke.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal. Noted anthropologists like Prof Birinchi Kumar Medhi and Dr RP Athparia attended the function.

The workshop was attended by 49 participants from different parts of Assam and the neighbouring states.

The technical sessions were taken by Dr Surya Kumar Pandey, assistant keeper and OIC (Technical Correspondence section), IGRMS, Bhopal; Abantika Parashar, District Museum Officer, District Museum Jorhat and Dibrugarh; Naba Kumar Patgiri, laboratory chemist, head of conservation, Directorate of Assam State Museum and Prof Ankuran Dutta, head, Dept of Mass Communication, GU.
