Workshop on nutrition

GUWAHATI, Aug 29 - A workshop on the Rashtriya Poshan Maah for the State and district-level officials was organised by the Assam Social Welfare Department in collaboration with UNICEF at the Assam Administrative Staff College here today.

Minister of Social Welfare Department Pramila Rani Brahma inaugurated the workshop. In her speech, the Minister stressed proper implementation of the Central scheme �Poshan Maah� which will be undertaken as a pilot project initially in five districts. She hoped that nutrition reaches the grassroot level, with a special emphasis on the tea labourers.

Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua spoke at length on the scheme and how a coordinated and concerted action was needed to tackle the problem of malnutrition.

The other dignitaries who attended the session were Assistant Secretary, GoI, Narendra Shah; Regional Director, NIPCCD, Dr Dip Saikia; DTA (ER), NN Tiwari, etc. At the outset, the Director of Social Welfare Debeswar Malakar presented the welcome address. The inaugural programme was followed by a technical session.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development will observe the month of September 2018 as Poshan Maah all over India. In this connection, the State Social Welfare Department has arranged the orientation workshop about the different activities to be performed in the field next month.
