Workshop on modern Assamese songs held

MORIGAON, April 11 - Morigaon College, a premier institution imparting higher education in Morigaon district, organised �Bonti Jwalao Aaha�� a workshop on Modern Assamese songs recently. Dr Paban Gogoi, renowned composer and musician as well as the principal of the well- known Jagiroad-based music college, �Sur Deol� was the resource person of the workshop.

�Bonti Jwalao Aaha�� is primarily aimed at arousing and kindling the flare for various genres of Assamese songs viz., Jyoti Sangeet, Rabha Sangeet, Parvati Prasad Geet, Bongeet etc., among the students of the college. The students were made to appreciate the ties between the traditional songs of Assam (namely� Ainaam, Biyanaam etc.) with that of Assamese modern songs, which are to a considerable extent influenced by the former in terms of tune and music. Students from different disciplines participated in the workshop which was inaugurated by Dr Leela Kanta Borthakur, Principal , Morigaon College.

The valedictory function held at Morigaon College auditorium included performances by internationally-renowned flautist Deepak Sarma and eminent classical singer Mitali De. The students also performed some selected songs taught during the workshop and were awarded certificates. The performance of Deepak Sarma and Mitali De were the first in Morigaon town. Professor Parag Jyoti Mahanta and Saradsri Choudhury anchored the programme.
