GUWAHATI, April 26 � A one-day workshop was organised today by GOLD under the Ujjawala project, funded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, for the NGO personnel on trafficking of women and children at Pensioners� Bhawan. Kaberi Sharma delivered the welcome address to the participants followed by inauguration of the function by Rajeeb L Duarah, Mridula Saharia and TG Baruah, said a press release.
The main objectives of the programme were � to prevent trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation through networking and partnership with various stakeholders; to build pressure groups for implementation of the policies and enforcement of existing laws; to adopt standard for care and protection of the survivors; and to bring about congenial social change by involving media and the community at large.
MK Ingtipi, additional SP, CID, Assam, Mythili Hazarika, clinical psychologist, Gauhati Medical College and Dr Rajeeb Sharma, general secretary, GOLD were the resource persons. They spoke on law enforcement in relation to human trafficking and example of good practices and psycho-socio needs of trafficked victims and overview on trafficking of children and women.
