GUWAHATI, Oct 10 - Excelcare Hospitals conducted a workshop on Interventions in Congenital Heart Disease here today. Three cases of Atrial Septal Defect, a congenital defect where a communication or hole remains between the left and right atria of the heart, were treated, stated a press release.
These defects were occluded with special devices introduced through the peripheral veins and avoided cardiac surgery in these patients.
All the three patients were young women who benefited from this procedure as surgery would result in a permanent chest scar. A team of doctors, comprising senior Paediatric Cardiologist, Dr Viresh Mahajan, Dr Himangshu Tyagi, and doctors from Excelcare Hospitals, Dr Dhanjit Nath, Dr Amitava Mishra, Dr Neil Bardoloi and Dr Nabarup Dutta Barua, performed these procedures. One of the patients is a resident of Bangladesh who came for treatment to the hospital.
