Workshop on food processing sector organised

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 - A workshop was organised by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries with the Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) as an industry partner at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre here on Friday.

A large contingent of industrialists, entrepreneurs of agri-based products, self-help groups from all over the State attended the daylong event.

Speaking at the workshop, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameswar Teli talked about various schemes being undertakehn to boost the food processing industry in the State. He also unveiled the Centre�s roadmap for incentivising the existing and aspiring entrepreneurs in the sector.

Teli said that the entire North East has huge potential for agri-based enterprises and several attractive schemes are there in the PMKSY policy framework, including financial incentives for mega food parks and integrated cold chains to assist entrepreneurs to establish market linkage across the country and also for exports to ASEAN countries.

The Minister announced the Centre�s plans to organise a mega food festival at Bogibeel in the early part of 2020 to showcase the potential of the northeastern region.

Bijay Kumar Behera, the economic advisor to Ministry of Food Processing Industries, outlined the benefits of the schemes offered by the Government of India and said there remains a huge potential in the sector to be harnessed by the entrepreneurs and farm producer organisations.
