GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - A two-day capacity building workshop on disaster management using participatory communication, organised by the Dr Anamika Ray Memorial Trust (ARMT) in collaboration with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) at Jnan Taranga Community Radio Station, Housefed complex here, concluded on Sunday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Madhab Chandra Sarma, chairperson of the trust. The welcome address was extended by Rajat Baran Mahanta, vice chairperson of ARMT. Ten participants from Jnan Taranga (KKHSOU) and Radio Luit (Gauhati University) were trained on the Community Learning Programme, a model based on formative research developed by the Commonwealth of Learning, an inter-governmental organisation based in Canada.
ASDMA project officer Mridusmita Borah shared a detailed description about disaster management and preparedness with the participants. Apart from the local trainers, a Delhi-based participatory communication specialist Devi Leena Bose interacted with the participants regarding Message Matrix of Community Learning Programme.
Both the radio stations will produce 10 community learning programmes on disaster preparedness each, where stakeholders and respective communities shall actively participate.
