Workshop on cluster development

JALUKBARI, June 14 - Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, organised a one-day sensitization workshop on cluster development at its auditorium today.

The workshop was sponsored by the Development Commissioner of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise, Govt of India.

The workshop was chaired by Manjula Saikia Bhuyan, Additional Director, Industries and Commerce. It was inaugurated by Manoj Kr Das, Director, IIE, and a brief report on cluster implemented in Assam was presented by Dr Sriparna Bhuyan Baruah, head, Centre for Industrial Extension. Swatnanka Deka, Assistant Director, DIMSME, also spoke on cluster development issues in Assam.

Presidents and secretaries of Nalbari japi cluster, Kakopathar bamboo incense stick cluster, Pyranga eri silk cluster, Boko, and Dhomdhoma handloom cluster, Baska district, and DICC (District Industries and Commerce of Nalbari and Tinsukia districts) attended the workshop.

The objectives of the workshop were to sensitize prospective stakeholders on cluster development in Assam, collaboration and convergence with the State Government and other agencies for implementation of the MSE-CDP (Micro Small Enterprise-Cluster Development Programme) in Assam, discussion on DPR (Detailed Project Report), preparation for setting up of CFCs (Common Facility Centres) at Pyranga eri silk Cluster, Dhomdhoma handloom cluster, Nalbari japi clusters, Asharikandi terracotta cluster and bamboo incense stick cluster, Kakopathar, in Assam.
