Dr Chandana Sarma, lecturer, Bajali College delivered a speech on the topic, Climate Change and its Adverse Effects. She explained about the various types of weather elements- temperature, humidity, rainfall, solar radiation, wind, cloud that are responsible for the climatic conditions of a particular area. Further, she also highlighted the adverse effects of Green House emission. She discussed about the various environment hazards viz floods, droughts, tsunami, volcanic eruption, earthquake and melting of ice caps, rising of sea level in coastal areas like Lakshadeep, Maldeep and Bangladesh. She also took into account the various problems that evolved during recent years in the Deepar Beel wetland due to deforestation, industrialization, solid waste damping in the catchments areas, railway track passing through Deepar Beel which are responsible for the climate change of that area.

Dr Tilaka Das, senior scientific officer, Assam Forensic Laboratory also delivered a lecture on climate change. She explained about the natural green house effect which is occurring in the troposphere. She explained about the various green house gases viz CH4, CFC, N2O, O3, CO2, H2O evolved from natural, manmade and other anthropogenic sources which are taking active part in the destruction of upper atmosphere such as ozone layer, increasing the thickness of green house layer which, in turn are responsible for climate change. She added that there are a number of natural factors responsible for climate change; some of more prominent ones are continental drift, volcanoes, oceanic current, the earths tilt, comets and meteorites.
