SILCHAR, Aug 30 � The Bioinformatics Centre (DBT-BIF) of Assam University, Silchar and The Computer and Statistical Service Centre of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata will jointly organise a workshop on �Introductory Statistical Analysis of Biological Data� from September 2-6 at the Assam University Bioinformatics Centre (DBT-BIF).
According to Dr Pankaj Chetia, research associate at the centre, the aim of the workshop is to familiarise the participants with the tools and techniques for analysing biological data using personal computers and software like SPSS and EXCEL. The workshop will focus on introductory analysis of data using statistical techniques and recently available computerised tools, Dr Chetia added.
The workshop is targeted at researchers from biological sciences working in North East India. In the workshop, 10 seats are reserved for participants from outside Assam University and already participants from Tezpur University, North East Institute of Science and Technology (formerly RRL), Jorhat, Cotton College, Guwahati, Manipur University, Gauhati University, Haflong Government College, SS College, Hailakandi have confirmed their participation in the workshop. The travel, accommodation etc., expenses of outstation participants will be borne by the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
The resource persons for the workshop from ISI, Kolkata include Debashish Roy, Subrata Ghosh and Rabindra Narayan Das. Dr Supriyo Chakraborty of the Department of Biotechnology, Assam University, will act as the in-house resource person.
