GUWAHATI, June 15 - The works of the historic Assam Socio-Literary (ASL) Club are the manuscript of Assamese nationalism. But there is a lack of adequate documentation about the club and its activities.
This was stated by educationist Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami while addressing a gathering here today as part of the release of Sankranti, a trilingual collection of historical writings published by the ASL Club. It has been compiled and edited by Deben Dewan. Goswami in his speech further stated that the collection would be a good source of research for the new generation people.
Releasing the book, noted writer Nirupama Borgohain recalled her days in Kolkata (then Calcutta) and stated that the capital city of West Bengal is her second home.
Former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha and distinguished writer Dr Dhrubajyoti Borah in his speech analysed the works of ASL Club and asserted that its members had started the trend of writing mind-blowing articles in Assamese which helped in mass sensitisation on various issues.
Taking part in the programme, president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Paramananda Rajbongshi announced that in the next session of the literary body to be held at Sualkuchi in February next year, a special programme would be held on the ASL. He also stated that the Sabha would publish a book about the club in the coming days.
