Workers stir hits Gohpur tea gardens

By Correspondent

BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 26 - Workers in several tea gardens under Gohpur subdivision of Biswanath district have been on an agitation since the last couple of days, demanding wages in cash on a weekly basis instead of payment through bank accounts on a fortnightly basis, was the case earlier. The workers are holding the stir under the aegis of the Halem branch of the Asam Chah Majdoor Sangha (ACMS).

The workers of Buroi Tea Estate owned by McLeod Russel India Limited under the Halem Revenue Circle also staged a dharna in front of the office of the tea garden on Sunday. Later, higher officials of the tea garden, including manager Jayanta Kumar Saikia and assistant manager Richi Pal Singh Tanwar, met the agitating workers and assured them of full cooperation from the management. Similar agitation programmes were also carried out by the workers of Dufflagarh Tea Estate, Brahmajan Tea Estate and Purupbari Tea Estate under Gohpur subdivision.
