Work on to repair NH-8; trucks stranded

NILAMBAZAR, June 28 - The Assam-Tripura road communication has remained totally paralysed since the last seven-eight days due to abysmal condition of the NH-8 at Luairpua area. Nearly 4,500 loaded trucks and fuel tankers are waiting enter Tripura State. The Government of Assam has failed to repair the road even after repeated requests and public agitations.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura is now facing a critical situation of food and fuel crisis and the same was informed to the Assam PWD Assam by the Tripura PWD on June 24. After long telephonic discussions between the Chief Engineers of both the States, the Tripura State PWD has obtained permission for repairing the dilapidated portion of the NH-8.

Accordingly, after taking permission the Tripura Government repaired nearly 300 metres of the said road by on June 24 night. Now the Karimganj district administration has directed the National Highway Karimganj division to immediately repair the road. ADCs Drubajyoti Deb and Arunava Dey, Pradip Ranjan Kar SP Karimganj visited the spot on June 26.

It is also to be mentioned here that when Executive Engineer NH Division, Karimganj, Moloy Deb went to visit the site, the police detained him at Luairpua. Now as per the direction of DC Karimganj, the ABCI Construction Company has started the repair work. Ranbir Sharma, DSP Karimganj supervising the said work that a large number of police personnel have been deputed here for maintaining security at the site.
