SHILLONG, May 8 - Work on the entry-exit points has finally begun in Meghalaya with PWD developing the land at one of the check gates at Ri-Bhoi district.
PWD Minister Comingone Ymbon said land development work at one of the check gates in Umling, Ri-Bhoi district began on May 1.
The check gate is being developed on a Government land which is owned by the Transport department. �The PWD is the implementing agency for the entry-exit point projects across the State,� he informed.
Around the State, 41 locations have been identified where these check gates would come up. In some of the areas work has moved to advanced stages, but in some areas there are issues of land acquisition, manpower and finance.
These check gates are being set up across the State to check influx. In these check gates the documents of the those entering into the State would be checked and would also have information for the tourists.
Earlier last month, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has set a May deadline to the State Government for setting up the entry-exit points in the State to check influx or face agitation.
The Minister said after the land is developed and completion of general elections in the country, the PWD would be submitting the estimate for the project to the Government.
