�Work for weaker sections of society�

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 - Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi has urged newly recruited bank probationary officers to help in maintenance of Jan Dhan accounts which is the Prime Minister�s People Money Scheme and India�s National Mission for Financial Inclusion, to ensure access to financial services.

Talking to a delegation of 59 newly-appointed probationary officers of the State Bank of India at Raj Bhavan yesterday evening, Prof Mukhi said the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched to bring the economically insolvent people within the banking fold and ensure access of everybody to financial services. Therefore, properly maintaining the Jan Dhan accounts besides helping the people get the fruits of banking services would also ensure inclusive growth of the nation.

Prof Mukhi also asked the officers to deliver their services in a way so that the economically weaker section of society get financial independence and can enjoy the fruits of savings. He also recalled his life as a professor and shared his opinion on the importance of the banking sector in developing the country�s economy.

�Bankers shouldn�t just think about finance. They should also think how the economically weaker section can be helped through their services,� he said.
