By Correspondent

SILCHAR, May 21 Even as her party faced a crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, the newly-elected MP from Silchar, Susmita Dev of the Congress is upbeat with her usual enthusiasm, and looked eager to deliver the goods for her people, despite sitting in the opposition.

In an informal discussion with scribes, Susmita made her intentions clear that she will not let the PM-designate Narendra Modi forget the place and the people she represents in the Parliament. As a Congress MP, I know this will be an uphill task for me, but I will never let Mr Modi forget there is a place called Cachar district, a determined Susmita said.

The Dev scion referred to the healthy politics which her father and former Union minister Santosh Mohan Dev adhered to and said that she will work for development of Barak Valley and sought cooperation from the people.

Speaking her mind on her vision as the Member of Parliament, Susmita Dev said that besides debating to drive home the railway broad-gauge project and the East West Corridor, she will also strive to set up a food processing industry here.

Meanwhile, during the felicitation given by her former colleagues at the Silchar Municipal Board, Susmita turned emotional. Battling to keep away tears, the former civic board chairperson said that it is this place from where she began her political career and because of her good work towards development, people have chosen her to speak for them.

I sought cooperation from everyone for the Lok Sabha elections and they have bestowed love and support beyond proportions. I will sit in the Parliament with a positive frame of mind to work for the people, Susmita said.
