Women�s Day in Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Golaghat

DIBRUGARH, March 9 - The women employees of the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) celebrated the International Women�s Day at the Home for Destitute run by the Missionaries of Charity at Boiragimoth here yesterday with a day-long programme.

The women employees conducted various games and competitions among the inmates of the Home. A cake cutting ceremony was also organised on the occasion. The winners were later awarded with trophies.

The women employees as a goodwill gesture donated a geyser for the destitute home on behalf of the BCPL management. �The celebration turned out to be a very rich experience as it provided us a platform to interact with the children and women of the Home,� said Labhita Das, Senior Officer, Public Relations & Corporate Communications, BCPL.

Earlier, the inmates of the Missionaries of Charity destitute home greeted the women employees of the BCPL with flowers and a welcome song. The children also performed Bihu dance and Jhumoor dance and entertained the women employees.

North Lakhimpur: The International Women�s Day was celebrated across Lakhimpur district on March 8 with calls for equitable presence of women in all spheres of work. The District Mahila Congress celebrated the day at Rajiv Bhawan with a meeting chaired by Monica Patir. Social worker Suprabha Medhi attended the meeting as the guest of honour.

A day-long programme was organised by the Nari Mukti Bahini, Asom in Laluk Music College, Laluk to mark the occasion. An interactive session was part of the event where journalist Farhana Ahmed spoke highlighting on the theme of this year�s Women�s Day. Advocate Nomal Borah, NGO activist Badan Kalita and columnist Sazzad Hussain also took part in the interactive session conducted by Parasmani Saikia.

The day was also observed in Lakhimpur Girls College where legal expert Meenaxi Gohain Baruah attended as the chief guest. Programmes were also organised in Om Prakash Dinidia College, Panigaon and in Nowboicha College, Nowboicha. The Women�s Day was also celebrated at Bihpuria by the Maharaneebari Mahila Samiti.

Golaghat: The International Women�s Day was celebrated at the Sahityacharya Syed Abdul Malik Bhawan, Golaghat under the aegis of the Assam Lekhika Sangstha, Golaghat Sakha Samiti on Tuesday. A seminar on the topic �Role of women in the changing society� was conducted on the occasion.
