Women�s chamber of commerce launches nat�l handloom council

GUWAHATI, Aug 7 - The Women�s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI) today launched its national handloom council on the occasion of National Handloom Day, which will have a chapter in every state.

National vice president of WICCI Alakananda Das said the focus of the council, in handloom sector, will be to preserve and patenting regional indigenous motifs and weaves. �Through research, workshops and documentation, we will also be trying to bring all aspects of weaving into the educational curriculum,� she said.

�The various councils will develop different areas of focus and specialisation in order to mainstream women�s voices and uphold women�s interest in policy making at multiple levels and to help women get better incentives, improved access to finance and other measures that empower the ease of doing business,� she added.

State president of the council, Shaheen Hussein said that apart from generating awareness through outreach programmes, the council will also be working towards controlling carbon footprints by looking for alternatives yarns.
