Women trained on making various products from water hyacinth

BAIHATA CHARIALI, June 15 - As part of their women empowerment project, Asha, a socio-economic development society of Baihata Chariali, recently organised a 15-day free training for women on manufacturing various products from water hyacinth.

The training camp held at Khepkuchi under Kamalpur assembly constituency was inaugurated by NGO president Chandana Mahanta Baniya. More than 50 women trainees from Gashbari, Mahajanpara and Khepkuchi attended the training programme.

Hasina Begum, chief resource person at the training camp, said the trainees were given practical and technical knowledge on how to make baskets, mats, bags, floor mats, fans, slippers and vases from water hyacinth.

In the same camp, the NGO also organised another training on how to make aloe vera soap and candle.

The aim of the programme was to help the women get training for establishing their own production units at home.

In association with the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, Bezera development block, the NGO has organised a number of production-related training camps among members of self help groups.
