GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - Assam Startup � The Nest conducted an awareness session at the Industrial Training Institute for Women at Rehabari here today to encourage the students to take up entrepreneurship as a means of self-sustenance and economic development of the State.
Around 150 students of the institute, including alumni, attended the event.
The session began with Shashank Choudhury, Community Coordinator of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, educating the students on startup and entrepreneurship. He spoke about the perks of entrepreneurship and how it can change the economic scenario of the State.
Encouraging the students, Choudhury introduced them to the Assam Startup initiative by the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Assam that intends to promote a culture of entrepreneurship in the State with a vision to transform Assam into a major startup hub of the country.
Assam Startup � The Nest is the first state-owned marquee incubator in Assam, and it was launched on January 20 this year under the Assam Startup Policy 2017. It offers thorough mentorship, capacity building workshops, co-working space, investors� connect and networking opportunities to the startups.
Altogether 52 startups are currently incubated at The Nest as a part of the first cohort batch. The contest for the second cohort is currently let open on the website www.startup.assam.gov.in. The last date for receiving applications is September 15, 2019.
Choudhury also informed the students about the startup recognition provided by the Government of Assam under which the eligible startups shall receive the My Assam Startup ID (MASI) that offers them access to different fiscal benefits, including a scale-up grant of Rs 50 lakh.
Founders of three incubated startups � BeBright, Let�s Learn Together and Tholua Pratisthan, also addressed the gathering and talked about their startups as well as the benefits they have received so far from Assam�s first state-owned startup incubator.
Expressing their eagerness, the students at the ITI came up with a few queries regarding startups and Assam Startup.
