Woman teacher kidnapped by Garo militants

TURA, July 30 � A woman school teacher was kidnapped by suspected Achik National Liberation Cooperation Army (ANLCA) militants while she was on her way home from school in Dokasaram in North Garo Hills district around 1.30 pm today.

The 30 year-old woman is a teacher of Dokasaram Adhoc Primary School, Sandai Sangma was on her scooter when she was allegedly stopped and taken at gunpoint.

�The area where she was kidnapped from is remote and as such there is no confirmation as to how many people were there. We have received information of her scooter being found in a village close to Dokasaram. Initial findings point to the ANLCA behind the kidnapping�, SP North Garo Hills JFK Marak said.

Meanwhile, family members of the victim have appealed for the safe and unconditional release of the teacher. The North Garo Hills Primary School Teachers Association has also came out solidly behind the kidnapped teacher. �She was working for children in a remote village where most are hesitant to go. We demand her safe release�, said the Association.

SI�s son kidnapped: Meanwhile, in another kidnapping three days ago, the son of a Sub Inspector was kidnapped from his house in Domeanti village in North Garo Hills district by unknown miscreants. Tenybirt Momin (27), the son of SI CK Marak was abducted and a sum of Rs 15 lakh demanded for his safe release. Operations are currently on in the district to rescue the abducted persons.
